When life gets busy, it is often hard to keep up with the housework. This is particularly true if you have young children or pets. Both are great at making messes but not so great at cleaning them up. Even so, you can keep your house clean from day to day by developing a few simple housework habits. These five habits can help keep your Pueblo West home cleaner and your life more organized than ever before.
#1: Develop a Routine
Many basic housework tasks can be made easier if you do them at the same time every day. It is best to develop both a morning and an evening routine to keep things tidy all day long. For example, begin the day by unloading the dishwasher. You can then put dirty dishes directly inside the dishwasher throughout the day. You could spend a few minutes tidying up your living area just before dinnertime in the evening. This will help you have a much more relaxing evening at home.
#2: Leave Shoes by the Door
Wearing shoes in the house will dirty up your floors and require more cleaning time. So, cut down on both by simply leaving your shoes by the door. Your floors will stay cleaner longer, and you won’t need to go hunting for your shoes each morning.
#3: Put Things Away as you Go
One of the biggest causes clutter builds up so quickly is that we often get things out or bring things into the house without immediately putting them away. One habit you can cultivate for a cleaner home is to put items away as you go through your day. If you get something out, put it back when you’re done using it. If you bring mail or purchases home, put them in their appropriate places. You could even keep a small shredder handy for junk mail so that it doesn’t pile up on you.
#4: Get Rid of Items You Don’t Need
In conjunction with putting things away, you can keep the house cleaner by teaching yourself to let go of things you simply don’t want or need anymore. We hold on to things for many reasons, but sometimes those things are simply taking up space. As you tidy up your home, ask yourself whether you need and use each item as you put it away. If you don’t have a definite answer to why you’re keeping it, it may be time to give it away. Keep a box in a closet or in the garage to collect items you can later donate to a local charity or thrift shop or hold a yard sale to clear things out.
#5: Deep Clean Once a Week
It can be tricky to clean the house every day, but if you set aside time to deep clean each room at least once a week, keeping those rooms clean becomes easier. If you don’t have time to clean the whole house in one day, consider cleaning just one room each day of the week. Or enlist family members or housemates to help you. Try making an event out of it with upbeat music or offer an award (like a fun outing or game night) to encourage participation.
Keeping up with the housework can be a challenge, but it can become much easier by developing these five habits.
